The 8-day Kilimanjaro climb via the Lemosho Route offers an exhilarating and diverse journey to the summit of Africa’s highest peak. Starting at Lemosho Gate, the trek winds through lush rainforests, transitioning into heather and moorland zones, granting breathtaking panoramas. The route leads to the famed Barranco Wall, a thrilling ascent offering spectacular views. Essential acclimatization is provided through the climb to Lava Tower and a descent to Barranco Camp. After passing through Karanga Camp, adventurers reach Barafu Camp, where they prepare for the summit push. The midnight ascent to Uhuru Peak via the challenging and stunning terrain culminates in a sunrise spectacle. The triumphant descent concludes with a return through the rainforest to Mweka Gate, making this 8-day Lemosho adventure an unforgettable experience of a lifetime.


Elevation at the start: Lemosho Gate (2,385 meters/7,825 feet)

Elevation at the end: Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,750 meters/9,022 feet)

Trekking time: Approximately 3-4 hours

The journey begins at the Lemosho Gate, where you'll complete registration formalities. The initial trek passes through the lush rainforest of the lower slopes, and you'll camp at Mti Mkubwa Camp for the night.

Elevation at the end: Shira 1 Camp (3,505 meters/11,499 feet)

Trekking time: Approximately 5-7 hours

The day's trek takes you through the rainforest and then into the heather and moorland zone. The landscape opens up, offering stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro. You'll camp at Shira 1 Camp for the night

Elevation at the end: Shira 2 Camp (3,900 meters/12,795 feet)

Trekking time: Approximately 4-6 hours The trek today leads to Shira 2 Camp. As you gain altitude, you'll notice the vegetation becoming sparser. The campsite provides beautiful views of the surrounding plains and the mountain.

Elevation at Lava Tower: 4,630 meters/15,190 feet

Elevation at Barranco Camp: 3,976 meters/13,044 feet

Trekking time: Approximately 6-8 hours

Today's trek involves a steady ascent towards Lava Tower, where you'll reach a higher altitude. Afterward, you'll descend to Barranco Camp, which is situated in the Great Barranco Valley. This route helps with acclimatization, as you'll spend the night at a lower elevation despite the higher point you reached during the day.

Elevation at the end: Karanga Camp (3,995 meters/13,107 feet)

Trekking time: Approximately 4-5 hours

The trail takes you up the Barranco Wall, a challenging and scenic part of the trek. Once you conquer the wall, the path gradually ascends to Karanga Camp, where you'll spend the night.

Elevation at the end: Barafu Camp (4,673 meters/15,331 feet)

Trekking time: Approximately 3-4 hours

The day's trek is relatively short, heading to Barafu Camp, your base camp for the summit attempt. This allows for more rest and preparation for the challenging climb ahead.

Elevation at the summit: Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters/19,341 feet)

Elevation at Mweka Camp: 3,100 meters/10,170 feet

Trekking time: Approximately 12-16 hours

You'll begin the summit attempt at midnight, trekking through the night. After reaching the summit of Uhuru Peak and witnessing the sunrise, you'll descend back to Barafu Camp and further down to Mweka Camp for the night.

Elevation at the end: Mweka Gate (1,640 meters/5,380 feet)

Trekking time: Approximately 3-4 hours

On the final day, you'll descend through the rainforest from Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate. At the gate, you'll receive your summit certificates and say goodbye to Kilimanjaro.


  1. Park fees: This includes the entrance fees to Kilimanjaro National Park, camping or hut fees, and conservation fees.
  2. Professional guides and porters: The package typically includes experienced guides who are knowledgeable about the mountain and its routes. Porters are also provided to carry the bulk of your gear and camping equipment.
  3. Meals: Most packages include all meals during the climb, from breakfast, lunch, and dinner to snacks. The food is often prepared by the trekking company and is designed to provide the necessary energy for the ascent.
  4. Camping equipment or huts: Depending on the route you choose, the package may include camping equipment like tents, sleeping bags, and sleeping mats. For the Marangu Route, accommodation is in huts with basic amenities.
  5. Safety equipment: Safety gear such as first aid kits, oxygen cylinders, and communication equipment may be included for emergencies.
  6. Transfers: Some packages include airport transfers and transportation to and from the Kilimanjaro starting point (e.g., Machame Gate or Marangu Gate).
  1. International flights: The package usually does not include international airfare to Tanzania.

  2. Visa fees: You’ll need to obtain a Tanzanian visa, and this cost is typically not included in the package.

  3. Personal gear: Climbers are responsible for bringing their personal gear, such as clothing, hiking boots, daypacks, and other essentials.

  4. Travel insurance: It’s highly recommended to have travel insurance that covers high-altitude trekking, medical emergencies, and trip cancellations. This is usually not included in the package.

  5. Tips: While not mandatory, it’s customary to tip the guides, porters, and other staff for their hard work and support.

  6. Additional accommodation: Accommodation before and after the climb is often not included in the package. You’ll need to arrange and pay for these separately.
